Estate plans can include instructions for distributing your property after you pass and for making decisions if you can no longer make them yourself. Wills That Protect Your Loved Ones and Your Wishes
- Provide the opportunity to distribute your property as you wish
- Plan for the care of minor children if you and the other parent pass away

Pennsylvania Trusts: Control, Protection, and Peace of Mind
- Can usually be created within a will (testamentary trust) to manage property for beneficiaries
- Allow you to control how assets are distributed
- Help ensure that a minor or other beneficiary receives funds/support in a controlled way
- Optional: living trusts allow management of property during your lifetime and might help with the transfer of assets
Advance Directives (Living Wills): Compassionate Planning for Difficult Times
- Clearly state your preferences for medical treatment in the event you are incompetent and either permanently unconscious or have an end-stage medical condition
- Specify who will act as your health care proxy or agent
- Include DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) orders if desired
Health Care Powers of Attorney: Trusted Decisions When You Cannot Decide
- Specify who will act as your health care proxy or agent if you are no longer able to take part in making decisions regarding your health care
- Living wills are not effective unless you are incompetent and either permanently unconscious or have an end-stage medical condition.
Financial Powers of Attorney: Protecting Your Assets and Your Future
- Authorize your agent to sign documents on your behalf in the event you are unable to do so yourself
- The authority of the agent can be limited to only take effect in the event you become disabled or you can leave it open so that if you are on a business trip, your agent can exercise the powers
